The Minot Community Endowment Fund awarded a total of $62,000 to 16 local nonprofit organizations on July 14 during a gathering at the Scandinavian Heritage Center.

The recipients and grant awards follow:

Jim Hill Middle School: PBIS incentive funds, $1,500.

Souris Valley United Way: Dolly Parton Imagination Library, $1,500.

Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota: ND Senior Companions, $1,000.

Minot Area Chamber EDC: Junior Achievement of Minot, $3,000.

Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch: Horse-Inspired Healing at Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, $5,000.

Mouse River Player Community Theater MRP East Façade Renovation, door replacement, $5,000.

Operation Homefront: Holiday Meals for Military, $5,000.

Minot Commission on Aging, Inc.: Senior Nutrition Program, $7,500.

Norsk Hostfest Association, Norsk Hostfest Family Fun Experience, $10,000.

Minot Social Club for Exceptional Persons, Inc.: Sponsor of the Month, $1,000.

Companions for Children, Inc: Lunch Pals: School-Based Youth Mentoring, $2,500.

Magic City Blessing Bank, $5,000.

Minot Area Homeless Coalition Inc.: Food support due to food insecurity, $4,000.

North Dakota Association for the Disabled, Inc.: HELP (Healthcare Equipment Loan Program), $1,500.

Minot State University: Mindscape Commons, $3,500.

Hello Sunshine Ice Cream & Books, $2,500

The Minot Community Endowment Fund was established in 1981 by a grant from the Otto Bremer Trust and is a permanent part of the North Dakota Community Foundation, which provides professional management of the fund. The fund is governed locally by an Advisory Committee, made up of volunteers from various service clubs in Minot. The Committee recommends grants annually and conducts activities to help increase the fund and the total amount available to grant.

Currently, the endowment fund has approximately $1.7 million in assets, thanks in part to two generous estate gifts from T.A. and Anna Solheim, and Charles and Madge Westlie. All gifts to the fund are pooled and invested, and only a portion of the earnings are used to grant back to the community each year. As the fund grows, so does the annual grantable amount. Therefore, the community has a strong financial resource to support the nonprofit sector and the changing needs of the community forever.
